  • The founder of Buddhism was Siddhartha Gautama also known as the Buddah. He founded it 2500 years ago.
  • The religious leaders are the Monks or Lanas.
  • The place of worship in this religion is in a temple or a shrine built in honor of Buddah. Worship can even take place in a small shrine built inside their home.
  • Buddhism began in Northeastern India. It is now practiced in China, Japan, Korea, and southeast Asia.
  • Buddhism has many gods. They believe in reincarnation, or being reborn after life into a new life. But instead of being reincarnated most Buddhists hope to leave the endless sircle of reincarnation and reach Nirvana, or Spiritual enlightment.
  • In Buddhism you can have as many gods as you want. These gods can take form of living and nonliving things. All of the followers are either Poloytheistic [believe in many gods] or are athiest [Do not believe in god at all].
  • Their Sacred writings are the Pali Canon and the Numerous Sutaras.
  • The Buddhists worship in large groups. They also worship alone by praying.
  • One of the religious holidays celebrated by Buddhists is Vesaak or Buddha's birthday.
  • The main symbol of this religion is the wheel of life. This allows Buddhists to see how they should view themselves.
